Shoe Spectacular at Rushden Christmas Lights switch-on!

The climax to this years GLOBAL FOOTPRINT programme of arts events will take place on West Street, Rushden this Saturday 1st December from 5.15pm as part of the annual switch on of Rushden High Street’s Christmas Lights.
Award winning arts organisation, Watch This Space will create a dramatic live performance on West Street, just off the High Street, with students from Rushden Community College.
In addition students from Newton Primary school, Denfield Primary School, St. Alfreds Primary School and Southend Primary School will design and create a spectacular archway into West Street made of over three hundred illuminated shoes.
Large-scale video projections will be beamed onto the façade of a former shoe factory and now new home of Nene Valley Community Action.
The finale arts event has been informed through discussions with Rushden Research and Rushden Museum and is supported by Rushden Town Council Events Committee and will follow a day-long programme of free Christmas activities on Rushden High Street in the build up to the Christmas Lights switch on at 5pm that include a Continental Street Market, street performers, children’s rides, Santa’s grotto, Punch and Judy, live music, Christmas pudding races, carol singing and more.
Watch This Space is well known in the county, previously creating the highly acclaimed SHINE programme of work, illuminating 5 historic churches across Northamptonshire. They were also responsible for the stunning Gunpowder Plot event at Lyveden New Bield, , and the company helped create the Victorian Country Gathering at Canons Ashby that won Best Heritage Event in Northamptonshire.
However the finale of GLOBAL FOOTPRINT looks set to be their most ambitious event to date. Artistic director Esther Simpson says, “We’re incredibly excited to receive the commission from Northamptonshire County Council and its partners to create the grand finale event of GLOBAL FOOTPRINT. It’s set to be a fantastic night starting with the big Christmas lights switch-on and we plan on delivering a spectacular free performance for local residents and visitors to Rushden that truly celebrates a proud heritage and thriving industry that is unique to this part of the UK.”
This is a FREE event, however tickets can be reserved in advance by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org but must be collected 1hr prior to performance times. Unclaimed tickets will be re-released.
